Description

Korhogo is the fourth most populous city in Côte d'Ivoire, and the largest city in the north of the country, 635 km from Abidjan. It is the capital of the District of Savanes and the Poro Region.

Etymologically, Korhogo derives from the expression "kor-go" which means "heritage" in the Senufo language.

Korhogo Department is part of the Savannah Region, bordering Mali and Burkina Faso. Korhogo is located 635 km from Abidjan, the economic capital and largest city of the country and 500 km from Yamoussoukro, the political capital.

In the region live the hornbills, fetish animals for the senufos. There are also many baboons, guenons, warthogs, potamochères, partridges and francolins as well as antelopes, mainly Buffon cobes and harnessed guibs. There are also many agoutis whose flesh is very appreciated and margouillats abound.
